There are very few voices that touch my soul, but Sarah McLachlan is one of them for sure. This album, surfacing, is so well produced, and the songs are incredibly unique, haunting and very beautiful. I love Building a Mystery, and Arms of an Angel, and I have to say I love everything in between these two songs almost as much/5(). Reply

Surfacing was released as the first Lilith Fair tour hit the road, and Sarah McLachlan benefited enormously from the timing. As the organizer of Lilith Fair, McLachlan was on the cover of magazines across America and Canada, which helped Surfacing debut at number two on the U.S. charts -- a particularly remarkable feat since its predecessor, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, peaked at number Brand: Imports. Her breakthrough album was called "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy;" on "Surfacing," Sarah McLachlan sounds like she's content to just float her way there. Which means that if you want a piece of her nirvana, you have to go along at her protracted, glacial pace. McLachlan favors maternal patience over bombshells, whispered intimacy over a quick. Reply
